Some youth residing in Kuru, a town near Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Monday clashed with operatives of the Special Task Force, after a round of shootings by unknown gunmen and the security operatives in the area killed one of the residents..
<(
The gunfire which occurred Sunday night also injured a male passer-by.

The protesting youth Monday morning, set bonfires and barricaded the main Kuru-Vom-Manchok road. They later marched through the streets chanting war songs, accusing soldiers of the killing.

However, STF spokesman, Captain Salifu Mustapha, denied allegations that the outfit carried out the shootings. He stated that the victims were hit by "stray bullets" from unidentified persons who opened fir indiscriminately on Sunday.

Mustapha in an interview said, "The attack was carried out by some unknown men who just fired indiscriminately and ran away. In fact, there are no STF men stationed at the point where the attack happened."

"The bullets from these attackers were not aimed at anyone in particular and that is why I say they were stray bullets. Right now, we are trying to find out who carried out the attack, but the youths are distracting us; I don't know why the youths should blame the soldiers over such crime and follow that up by taking the laws into their hands."

"For now the road is closed but very soon the road shall be opened for vehicular movement. We have made some arrests, but I don't know how many. I can only confirm that later, " he said.

Mustapha added that troop reinforcements has been sent to the area to restore normalcy$

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, has revealed that he came very close to signing Robin van Persie from Arsenal and admits the striker, who is now scoring for fun at rivals Manchester United, could decide where the title ends up this year.

"We were very close. He took his decision but three or four months before we were there," Mancini said, making a gesture with his hand to show how close the deal was.

Van Persie has already scored 14 goals in the league and Mancini lamented City's inability to seal the deal, as it would have given them something different in attack.

"It is clear he has changed the situation. In this moment, he is the difference. Last year we were the team that scored the most goals in the Premier League and I am very happy [with my forwards].

"But we wanted Van Persie because he is totally different from our other strikers. When you can improve your team with top players it is important [to do it]. With Van Persie we could also play with three strikers sometimes. But now we can do nothing."

The Italian however added that he expects more from his summer <( arrivals, who have not really had a great impact.

"These players can do better. Garcia started very well, he played the first game against Stoke and then he got an injury and was out for 40 days. Now he has started to play and he can be important.

"Scott is my fault because I didn't get him a big chance to play. He's fantastic because he always works hard and when he has the chance he plays 100%.

Lmao! I saw this on the internet and I just had to blog it.. What do yall think?

On Christmas Day, President Goodluck Jonathan, for the second time in six months, admitted that his administration is slow as far as the decision making process is concerned. His excuse for the administration's tardiness stemmed from the need to think through policies in order to avoid costly mistakes that may be difficult to reverse. In July, the same president blamed the Boko Haram insurgency for the slow pace of his administration.

Given his penchant for moving at a snail's pace, we shall give him the sobriquet, Jonny Go-Slow. It's a throwback to a similar nickname, Baba Go-Slow, coined for <( Mr. Michael Otedola, who as governor of Lagos State in the 1990s, was also known for his slow pace of governance.

But if you asked me and a host of other Nigerians, Jonathan and his administration is not just slow, it is frustratingly weak and indecisive. The president's tardiness and inability to take action is not just glaring in his style of governance, it is evident in his limp handshake that depicts him as a man uncertain of himself and his environment.
<(
Expectedly, the president's most recent excuse for his tardiness drew flak from the opposition and civil society groups. Those who didn't have a voice just shook their heads in disappointment at a president who looks for every excuse under the sun for his shortcomings. Some attributed Jonathan's underwhelming style to the fact that he stumbled on power and remains unprepared for governance. I disagree.

Just days after Kanye West announced her pregnancy, Kim Kardashian, has stepped out with her baby bump, looking as stylish as ever.

In pictures obtained exclusively by E! News, the delighted couple was flying out from Atlantic City airport, after Yezzy's concert.

The report described Kim's outfit as "a sleek all-black ensemble, rocking shiny pants and a sexy coat with a cinched waist that perfectly drew the eye to where we'll be seeing a lot of baby-bumpin' action, which, for now, was well hidden beneath her ensemble."

"We did not deserve more than a draw against Southampton" – Wenger

After watching his team labour to a 1-1 draw against Southampton, Arsene Wenger admitted that they did not deserve more than a draw, after a tepid performance.

Here is the full transcript of his post-match interview:
<Br>
on the result…
Considering our performance I don't think we deserved more today. It is two points dropped if you look at the target we set ourselves over Christmas. It is frustrating and disappointing because we did not create a lot and if you considered we scored five at Reading and seven against Newcastle. When you sum up the goal chances there is not a lot. We lacked purpose, penetration and speed. All qualities we have usually but lacked tonight.

on the reasons for the performance…
It is frustrating. It is nothing to with the physical. Maybe we thought we scored seven against Newcastle and we'd score seven today. It was a game of magnitude today against a highly motivated Southampton side but I thought [our problem] was more mental than physical.

We prepared normally and prepared well. Maybe Southampton deserve some credit as well. They fought for every ball, they were on their toes but they just did not have quite enough quality to take advantage of it

It is difficult to identify any specific thing. We have to sit down and analyse that together. We have big games coming up and we want to get back to our normal performance. FA Cup is out next game so we want to win it. We will lose Gervinho now so the squad is getting shorter.

on signing Thierry Henry…
At the moment we are not on that case. But I will be active [in the January window] yes. We are looking everywhere. We are open-minded. We want to strengthen the squad everywhere.

on Theo Walcott…
It is hard to single out anyone. Nobody was put in good conditions to express anything decent offensively

Robin van Persie and Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez both scored two goals, as Manchester United began 2013 in imperious form. The pair were grabbed a goal each, as the Premiership leaders defeated Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium, where they had lost last season, as City came from behind to win the League.

City, playing at home, did not need to move into second gear, as they comfortably dispatched Stoke City 3-0, with Zabaleta, Aguero and Dzeko getting the goals.

Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to defeat Reading 3-1, Danny Graham struck late to earn Swansea a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, while West Ham beat Norwich 2-1 at Upton Park.

Robin van Persie has hailed the quality of his new team mates at Manchester United, after Tuesday's 4-0 hammering of Wigan at the DW Stadium.

The 29-year-old striker bagged a brace, as the Red Devils maintained their seven-point lead over City, at the top of the League.

Van Persie, says he is surrounded by champions in a special team.

"This is a special team," he told MUTV. "Everybody wants to help each other. Everybody's keen for everyone to score. Defenders are working their socks off for the midfielders, the midfielders are working for the strikers… everybody wants to run and everybody has one target in their mind.

"We have to look at it game by game but everybody wants to be champions. I feel that I'm surrounded by champions. They know how to win and that makes it really easy for me."

The free-scoring Dutchman, specially reserved praise for Mexican striker, Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez, who also scored twice in the victory.

"[Javier and I] scored two goals each and he gave a really good pass for my first goal," he added. "It was a good goal because every single touch was the right touch, in my opinion.

"The first one was a little behind me and I had to drag it onto my left foot. That was a good touch. Then I waited for the guy to slide in, had a good touch inside and then a quick finish. Three touches but all good touches.

"It was a very good performance we scored the goals at the right time. We've played Wigan twice this year and won 4-0 both times, so that's good for goal difference.

"Everybody's helping each other and everybody wants to share the goals. Look at the last goal – Danny wanted to give the ball to me so I could score. Everybody's like that. I'm like that, Chicha is like that… everybody wants to share the goals and that, in my opinion, is the way to score heaps of goals.

"Hopefully we can keep it going. We've had a couple of games where we've had high scores but we want to score even more goals because that could be vital come the end of the season.
