A YOUNG woman badly scarred in an acid attack may have inflicted the injuries on herself, police believe.
Naomi Oni, 20, claims a person dressed in a Muslim veil threw acid over her as she returned to her Dagenham home in East London on December 30 last year.
Ms Oni received severe burns to her face, head, leg and arm in the incident and was left partially blind. The Victoria's Secret shop assistant also lost her hair and eyelashes and has undergone several operations since.
But police have discovered Ms Oni searched the internet for websites about acid attacks before she was hurt, the Sunday Times reveals. The searches included material on Katie Piper, the former model who had sulphuric acid thrown in her facein an attack arranged by her former boyfriend.
Police tried to retrieve Ms Oni's laptop from her home in January, but were unable to find it. It was later given to police by Ms Oni's mother. She is believed to have admitted that she had searched websites but has dismissed that she injured herself.
Police have reportedly asked herrelatives if they think she could have harmed herself. Oni's boyfriend, Ato Owede, has dismissed the suspicions as ''crazy''.
