"I am here to stay" expressed Jose Mourinho but for how long? That, he insists, is still the prerogative of Roman Abramovich, the demanding owner of a club which has enjoyed its most successful decade with the Russian oligarch in command.
Managers including Mourinho, who ended their 50-year wait for the title, have come and gone, sent packing irrespective of the silverware left behind. Mourinho, though, yearns for more despite the potential consequences. Without doubt, his second coming is not only good for Chelsea but for English football.
Any doubters about the box-office appeal of the 50-year-old Portuguese should have been at Chelsea's Cobham training ground on Friday as he held court for his first media conference of the new Premier League season.
